PRESS RELEASE – The Government of St Lucia through the St Lucia Social Development Fund (SSDF) will be implementing another cycle of the Short Term Employment Programme (STEP) commencing March 29th 2016.
This cycle which will run for seven (7) days, will employ a total of one thousand nine hundred and thirty five (1935) workers to undertake the customary clean ups, de-bushing and beatification of several communities throughout all seventeen (17) Constituencies on the island. The will programme also hire sixty three (63) transportation providers to carry all generated waste to the designated landfills in Castries and Vieux Fort.
All green waste collected in Soufriere, Choiseul and Laborie will be deposited at a compost site in Balambouche, Choiseul for use by the Belle Vue Farmers’ Cooperative for their farms.
This will be the third cycle of STEP for the 2015-2016 financial year with the first two cycles hiring a total of four thousand three hundred and seventy eight (4378) workers and one hundred and thirty three (133) trucks.
