(PRESS RELEASE VIA SNO) – The Department of Sustainable Development, is collaborating with the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations of Saint Lucia and the Saint Lucia National Trust, to host a Private Sector Consultation on June 7, 2018.
The consultation is aimed at sensitizing the private sector on the Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development: “Transforming our World”. The gathering also seeks to prioritize the seventeen (17) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The seventeen SDGs focus on many issues that have been affecting our nation including inequality, environmental degradation and poverty.
By signing on to Agenda 2030 in September 2015, Saint Lucia committed to investing in its people, protecting the planet, increasing prosperity for its people, ensuring that there is a peaceful and safe environment for all, while working together and developing partnerships to guarantee the successful promotion of sustainable development.
The consultation is a critical stage in Saint Lucia’s effort to promote Sustainable Development and to determine the priority areas for the National Development Plan.
The upcoming event will focus on the private sector’s priorities, given that so far, priority areas have been identified for civil society organizations. Additionally, the consultation will assist in the continued efforts to develop a National Sustainable Development Goals Roadmap, charting the way forward for Saint Lucia to efficiently implement the one hundred and sixty-nine (169) targets of the Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030.
The Honourable Dr. Gale Rigobert, Minister for Sustainable Development says: “It is imperative to ensure that we maintain a people-centred approach in all that we do. It is especially important to involve the private sector as a critical player in the pursuit of national development.”
The consultation will take place at Union Orchid Garden starting at 08:30 am. The Department invites coverage of the event by the media and can be reached at Tel. 451 8746
